What to Wear: Your Practical Guide to Farming Attire

Choosing the right farming attire depends on several factors. First, consider the type of work you'll be doing. Next, what season is it: spring, summer, autumn, or winter? Also, what direction does your space face—east, west, north, or south? What is the regional culture where you live? Finally, what is your personal style?

1. Type of Work

If you're in the Central Highlands during coffee harvest season and you wear shorts and a T-shirt, fire ants will bite your hands and legs until they swell up. Coffee harvest typically happens in October and November, which is also the beginning of winter with cold drizzles. In this case, the best work clothes are cheap and durable camouflage sets (like military uniforms) sold at the market. Don't wear white clothes if you're planting rice in the muddy fields! If you're clearing weeds, remember to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from debris. Full-body protective clothing is essential to prevent grass from dirtying your clothes or even a chainsaw hitting a rock and flying towards you.

2. Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

In the warm spring, when flowers are in bloom, you can wear a light floral dress to the garden to pick vegetables, pull weeds, and prune plants. This creates a relaxed atmosphere and a sense of enjoying the work while capturing beautiful memories. In the summer, remember to wear a thin scarf to wipe away sweat and a wide-brimmed hat with a drawstring to shield from the sun and keep it from blowing away. Autumn is cool, so a short-sleeved shirt and shorts are just right for the garden. When winter comes, remember to add a warm jacket, gloves, and boots to stay healthy and work with strength and resilience.

3. Lifestyle

If you follow a minimalist lifestyle and want to protect the environment, you can buy second-hand clothes and mix and match them to your liking. If you are active and have a strong personality, you can wear a T-shirt with a button-up shirt over it, paired with trousers or jeans. To make it more convenient, choose pants with many pockets to hold fruits or handy gardening tools like pruning shears and wire cutters for building a flower trellis.

4. Regional Culture

In the red basalt soil region of the Central Highlands, avoid wearing light-colored clothes, and absolutely do not wear white, as the red soil will stain them and won't wash off for days. 4. Văn hóa vùng miền: nếu ở Tây nguyên vùng đất đỏ bazan thì hạn chế mặc đồ sáng màu và tuyệt đối không mặc màu trắng đi làm vườn vì đất đỏ dính vào giặt ba ngày ba đêm cũng không sạch nổi. Về miền núi mà diện đầm váy, ăn mặc mát mẻ ra vườn thì bà con xung quanh nhìn thấy cũng sẽ xì xào cho là chúng ta làm màu (make color). Miền tây thì sình bùn, muỗi mòng rất nhiều cùng các loài rắn rết côn trùng khác nên ra vườn cần mặc áo quần dài, có thêm đuôi ủng dài để phòng rắn.
